When the hunted becomes the predator.
Scarlett Lyttleskeill departs from London with her
Aunt Celia in a ship destined to take them both towards a new beginning at a
small village called Clearwater Eden somewhere along the coasts of The New
World. However, what she never expects to find while living in said town is a
settlement determined to sacrifice whatever they have to in order to keep lands
they now claim as theirs.
As Scarlett arrives at Clearwater she realizes that
the villagers keep secrets that literally kill and that if you cross them the
wrong way those who once received you with open arms might just be willing to
call upon supernatural forces just to get rid of you.
The dream that greeted me was different this time.
Instead of having flashes of deadly images, or finding myself inside the
beast’s body, I found myself standing in the middle of the woods, alone. I
could tell right away I was standing in the middle of the forest but I had no
clue as to where the exact location was. However, the eerie silence that
surrounded me did not go unnoticed. Everything was silent, eerily still, and
startlingly dark.
It was somewhat of a relief to know I was alone.
However, that relief shattered the instant the beast stepped out from within
the shadows and walked straight toward me until we were nearly face to face. No
matter how much I tried to run and scream, I found that I could do neither. My
body and mind were frozen with fear within moments.
As if to get a point across to me, he slowly
approached on two steady hind legs. The slowness in his gait was deliberate and
meant to intimidate me. There was no doubt in my mind about that. To make
matters even worse than what they already were, his massive size hit me like a
ton of bricks. Here was a beast that was three times my size and twice as wide.
Should he desire to pick me up and tear me to pieces, he could have done so
without the slightest trouble.
However, none of those characteristics stood out to
me nearly as much as the scent of lavender that wafted up my nostrils. It
didn’t take long for me to realize that the odor was coming from the actual
beast, and I could only wonder how a creature so foul could smell so incredibly
good.
Although his scent was an enigma in itself, his
physical appearance was absolutely staggering. The beast resembled a cross
between animal and human. He had long arms and legs, a big head equipped with
pointy ears, a large snout filled with sharp canines, thick muscles that
protruded from his massive frame, and a body covered with short brown hair. I
had never seen anything like him before, and terror comes short of describing
what I felt upon gazing at this demon.
When he stepped close enough to me that I could make
out every detail of his huge yellow eyes, I nearly swooned. Shaking with fear,
I simply gazed up at his terrifying profile.
Soon,
I will come for you.
