Praise for Chapters One-Three of 'At Water's Edge' by S. McPherson:
"Loved the teaser! It pulled me in and made me want to read more. Your writing style is clean, uncluttered and brimming with tension. Well done!""You got a lovely and interesting story, hope to read more from you."
"I liked it a lot! While I was reading it, I was able to be drawn into the story easily by your words. A stormy night like you were describing sets the perfect scene for a suspenseful fantasy novel."
"I really enjoyed reading your first chapter. It was gripping. The descriptions are well written."
My review:
Wouldn’t it be fun to discover there’s another version of you existing in a parallel world? I’m not so sure how comfortable I’d be if this were me, but here’s where At Water’s Edge takes over.
Desoray’s life is what nightmares are made of. Not only does she have to contend with her brother’s abuse, but she’s forced to endure hours of labor at a job she hates to pay a debt she doesn’t have. Guilt dominates her very existence, and she can’t see beyond what everyone has made her believe.
So when the opportunity for a reprieve presents itself she takes it. Her twin stays behind on Earth, to live out Desoray’s life, and try to fool others into believing she’s a normal person when in fact, she’s anything but.
I hate giving out spoilers when I write a review so I wont relay details about the story, but I will say that At Water’s Edge was definitely an entertaining read. I was mesmerized by Desoray’s strong will and how she grew as the story progressed. The parallel worlds, and Lexovia and Desoray taking each other’s place kept me hooked. I couldn’t put it down. I just had to find out how each one would handle the tasks, burdens, and conflicts the other had to face on a daily basis.
Magic and a cute, young boy to fall for...yes, please.
How long do I have to wait for the sequel? Not long I hope.
Anyway, I’m glad I was able to unwind and enjoy At Water’s Edge.
